Let me tell you about my morning. Yes, its only 6:30am, and I’ve already had “a morning”.
It started at about 4:17am, when AJ woke up crying. I got him calmed down and back into some sort of sleep, so I stumbled back to my bed to get back under the warm warm covers. Unfortunately, as it usually goes for me, my brain was already working at full speed and so I laid there with a thousand thoughts in my head. Until he started crying again at 4:48am. I went to him, and immediately saw the drops of blood covering his sheets and pillow and dripping from his nose.
After AJ’s been sick for a little while, especially when its snotty nose related (and when isnt it?) he gets bloody noses. We’ve been lucky to lessen them with running a humidifier at night, and recently our doctor recommended swabbing Vitamin E oil in his nose, but this time around, no luck.
This one, in particular, was pretty bloody and in addition to that, poor AJ was freaked out by it, so he was crying, and screaming and thrashing around in my arms. Which, as you can imagine, would only make things worse.
It was not long before I was covered in blood, and its possible that my 3rd floor has blood in various places, but I havent been back up there yet. My hands, my face, and my shirt was splattered with blood, I looked like I had murdered someone.
All I wanted was to NOT be covered in blood, but instead I sat on the couch with AJ while he calmed down and we finally got his nose to stop bleeding.
All seemed well. I was in the bathroom washing up, AJ was standing near me “reading” a magazine. If you’re familiar with my 2nd floor half bath (which is where I get ready in the mornings), AJ was standing in the small space between the window and the toilet, with a magazine on the toilet. He was flipping through it… and just like you and me, he gets very annoyed by those small inserts that keep the pages from laying flat. But his temper was so short that after pounding on it a little bit, he got upset and threw himself back in protest. Bad spot to do such a thing, as he jabbed his head right on the corner of the window sill and then smashed his forehead on the hard toilet. Yep. Cause what was missing from this morning was a trip to the emergency room. Fortunately, the only blood that showed up was from his nose (again). But we got it under control.
And now, he’s drumming to Blue Man Group and I’m going to go start a load of laundry. All before 7am.

Man. I think I will be able to handle kids one day, but I can only imagine how trying a morning like that would be. Only comparable thing I can think of is the limits to which my customers at work push me….they act like children a lot.

YIKES. I am sure you handled it as good as possible. That is parenting through the good and bad, mainly the bad that morning. Praying for you and that cute AJ.
