Daft Punk’s Playin At My House

Posted at 9:36 am on Wednesday, June 28, 2006

So, unless Tenna flakes out again, the studying of my home will take place tonight. But I’m over it. I mean, the house will  be tidy, and most of its ultra cleanliness has remained from last week, but I’m not breaking a sweat over it. I did, however, give in to my mom’s pressure and decide that I should offer a snack. Because she wont be coming over till 8:30 tonight, I opted to make a favorite of many, my mini fruit pizzas. And just for posterity’s sake, today I’m wearing light khakis with my teal sleeveless shirt that everyone seems to like so much. My hair is down and I’m wearing my pearls from Emily’s wedding. Wouldnt want to repeat the same outfit twice for the big adoption events.
I mailed a few important documents last week. CAS, of course, received our signed forms and quickly responded with another packet, twice the size. The document that I’m most worried about was mailed to our lovely government office in Charlotte. I know that C. Phelan signed for it at 10am on Monday morning. And now, I must trust that C. Phelan will get it into the proper hands and it will be processed in a timely matter. Currently, they’re taking 12 weeks to process this paperwork. Lets hope someone lights a fire under their bums. Cause 12 weeks puts us in the middle of September. Thats still enough on schedule, but cutting it a little close.
I’ve been meaning to update the Market with some special topics, but I’ve been too busy at work. Hopefully before the end of the week you’ll see some Kid Tested, Mother approved posts and some Just for Sabrina items.

Hammock Motion Bed

I just discovered this product and I’m so torn about it.
First off, when Steve and I met with Tenna last week, she told us about how babies in Korea sleep. They sleep in ’swings’ suspended from the ceiling, not too far from the floor. I search high and low on the internet for a picture of these swings. Nothin. But if I could provide a sleeping environment similar to that for my Baby, that’d make the transition so much easier.

In enters this.
Amby Baby Hammock Motion Bed
Similar to the Papasan swing I have on this list, but they recommend this product instead of a traditional crib. It’d be weird, but maybe it’d be perfect. It travels, so Baby doesnt have to sleep in strange environments. But its only good for up to a 1 year old (which means I’ll only get about 6 months of use out of it). So what do you do after that and before a toddler bed? And its pricey. But if it did replace a crib and the swing, it might be worth it. I mean, we could even travel to Korea with it.

Thermometers

I didnt know about this item till I spotted it on Kelli’s registry. But I’ve read a bit about it and it sounds like a smart buy. As a child, I had my temp taken rectally one too many times, so I’d like to avoid that humilation with my Baby. While regular digital thermometers are manageable for older childen, struggling with a toddler to keep the thing under its arm is nearly impossible.
If you cant afford the price on the Temporal (though the difference isnt that great), I’ll recommend an Ear scanner. But not without warning. A lot of people say these bad boys, though convenient (unless your child has an ear infection, then, notsomuch pleasant) are not always accurate. Most recommend taking the temp three times and getting an average. However, its not that bad… its not like you’d be getting 99.1 with one reading and 103.4 with another. More often than not, after three months of having a baby, you can tell if it has a temp just by looking at it. Its a Mommy skill (that I somehow managed to acquire at the age of 13).

Baby Gates

With all the stairs in my house, you can bet your rug burned bottom we’ll be needing some baby gates.

I have a favorite, but its unreasonably priced. And it needs an installation kit. I cant see spending 400 dollars on baby gates (not when I refuse to spend that much on a crib!) so I’ll have to settle for second best. I eliminated all prison looking gates and came up with these two.

Swaddler

Baby’s LOVE to be swaddled. But with a regular blanket, its not always easy to get it right. So its a good thing this puppy exists. Though I’ve never used one, I would imagine it makes swaddling a snap.
