Reading Rainbow

Tomorrow morning we’re driving up to Greensboro, where our agency lives, to attend their AdoptPrep course. Once we finish that, we will have completed our 30 hours each of educational credits. The course is usually one of the first things you do as a potential adopter, but we couldnt find a date that worked for us until now. Our social worker, Jessica, emailed me earlier this week to let me know that a family that has recently adopted from Korea will be there, speaking about adoption, and they should have their little girl with them. I’m very excited. Hopefully we’ll get to talk to them a little bit (though I have no idea what I’d say!).

Carolina Waits For Me

A year ago, I never would have thought I’d be excited to see something in the mail from the Department of Homeland Security. But, here I am, jumping up and down for joy because NOW we are approved by the United States to be parents. We got our I-171H in the mail. The letter was pretty dry, and not an easy read, but I got the important stuff out of it. One day, I might suggest they rewrite it to say “We think you guys are super cool and will make excellent parents. You rock! All the best – CIS.” But no… it says something like “It has been determined that you are able to furnish proper care to an orphan or orphans as defined by section 101(B)(1)(F) of the immigration and nationality act.” Boooring. But hey, none of my new parent friends have official approval from the government to be parents. Iiiii do.
Come on Korea, I’m ready!

Hold Up, Wait a Minute

There’s absolutely nothing going on in the adoption world for me. I’m getting anxious since things are ’supposed to’ ‘possibily’ pick up in November, but we havent heard a peep from anyone about anything.

So, I bring you a super cute picture of Evan Bailey.

A, You’re Adorable

Steve and I drove up to Lynchburg this past weekend so that I could get in some serious Connor time. I have to admit, this little guy is one of my new favorite people. He’s super cuddley and way cute. He’s also a good sport and let me hold him for a very long time. I suppose his parents were also good sports for letting me snuggle their baby.

Give Me A Sign

Say hello to Corban! Corban’s the only baby I got to hold on the day he was born (out of the YOTB babies). Lucky him.

I’m going to have to give props to all my new parent friends. I was holding Corban for all of 10 minutes and he made about a thousand different sounds, all of which sounded like he was struggling in some way. And then, if he stopped making noises my heart rate quickened and I secretly poked him to make sure he hadnt stopped breathing. There were a lot of “ohmygod! did I just kill their baby?! he’s not even a day old!” thoughts. But, I think he’s fine. Just noises I’m very not used to.
