A Little More Action, Please

I memorized the 2nd set of numbers for my case worker, Jessica, so that I wouldn’t freak out everytime a 336 number appeared, but only when it was 336-275-….. This morning, that number appeared, and boy did I go a little crazy inside. I composed myself, fished around in my purse for my camera to get the all important shot, and answered the phone. And it was Jessica! Holy crap! This is it!
This is NOT it. Sweet Jessica was just responding to an email I had sent her. Are you kidding me? Thats what the reply button is for, woman! Every social worker knows you dont call someone waiting for a referral without news of said referral. Are you trying to kill me? Cause that might put a kink in things. /rant
She did have some good money related news. Nothing like “I found you a grant for 30 grand, you’re set!” but Kathy from FCA managed to sneak us in under the 2006 fee instead of the new fee, saving us 2 grand. Cant complain about that. They are also hopeful that we will get a referral from a baby born in 2006 (probably November or December). Thats definitely something to be hopeful for, cause if not, we’ll be waiting till May (because of the new laws) and that would suck.
So keep your fingers crossed that next time Jessica calls, its with the right news!

A Little Less Conversation

As I sit, twiddling my thumbs, waiting for a referral, I thought it might be fun to spice things up a bit. So, how about a referral pool. You pick the week when you think we might get the call, and if you win, we’ll name the baby after you. Or not. If your name is Leah or Andrew, you stand a good chance. Otherwise… no. But you will win gloating rights, and if I’m feeling the spirit of baking, perhaps your very own dessert.
So, pick a week.
Some details that might help you make your decision…. When people ask how long we’re waiting, I’ve been saying anywhere between 1-5 months. Could be tomorrow, could be May. Truthfully, we really dont know. There are so many rumors, it could drive a person crazy. What I do know is that the last three families from our agency to send their homestudies to Korea (since the beginning of November), received a referral within a month. (Our homestudy went over on 12/11/06). But that was also at the end of 2006. Its possible things could slow down in 2007. And one of the rumors is that it will. So, your guess is as good as mine.
But join the pool, it’ll be fun!
