Believe It Or Not Im Walking On Air

Thanks to USPS, AJ’s care package is on its way. A 6 pound box for $45, promising to be there in 10 days. I’ll take it.
Thanks to Kelli for the suggestion. I’ve had some bad experiences with the PO in the past (not to be confused with the POlice) and had stopped trusting them. Which is why I went to FedEx first. But, should this package make it to Korea, USPS will forever be my hero.

*sigh*
I was not expecting FedEx to quote me a rate of $173 to get AJ’s package to Korea. In my head, I thought it’d be about 30 bucks, but was willing to pay 50. Jennifer, the nice Korean FedEx girl recommended that I go down to the one-stop mail store and see if he could get me a better rate with another carrier.
So, I did. And got quoted the cheapest rate of $75. To send it by boat. With no tracking info, no confirmation, and a likely travel of 3 months. Right. I’ll have AJ home by then, but thanks.
So, now I dont know what to do. I’m so bummed. I worked so hard on getting it together and was really comforted by the thought that’d he have some stuff from us during this wait. After I get over being depressed, I may consider slimming the package down to something more reasonable, and hopefully cheaper, but we’ll see. AJ definitely wont fit in the outfits when he gets home, but I may have someone I can give them to…
*sigh* I dont like my baby being so far away.

But They’ve Got Planes And Trains And Cars

Sometime today, I’ll be stopping by FedEx, to put AJ’s care package in the mail. Here’s whats inside.

Specifically for AJ there’s the photo album, a blanket we’ve been sleeping with (so it smells like us), three outfits (including the infamous monkey butt pants), a couple of teethers, a fun frog rattle, and a penguin for the bath tub (as AJ doesnt really like baths, and maybe thats because he doesnt have a penguin to keep him company). For his foster family, I included a Duke University mug, a bag of North Carolina peanuts, a box of Salt Water Taffy and three disposable cameras (in hopes that they will take pictures of AJ while we wait).
Please God, be with this package as it travels across the world. Bless it and keep it safe. Help it to travel quickly (before AJ doesnt fit in the clothes anymore!). Help it to be well received by his foster mom and enjoyed by everyone. Please help AJ to feel our love across the world from these gifts we send to him. Oh, and please help my Korean writing to be understood. Thank you!

I got a notice from our agency today, a request, actually, for another form to be signed and notarized. Its a Class B Waiver. What it means is that AJ has had his Visa physical (which is a nice sized step in the process) and had something noted in Section B of that physical paperwork. It was noted that he has a scar from his hernia surgery. And this waiver states that we are aware of that, and accept that condition. Heh. Of course we accept it! I realize lots of things fall into that Section B… and from what I’ve heard, it could range from an abnormally shaped birth-mark to a severe handicap. I was surprised to receive the request, but its not a problem. And thankfully, I have someone willing to notarize it. So, it’ll be in the mail tomorrow.
Also, hopefully, in the mail tomorrow is AJ’s care package. Tonight I’m meeting with my Korean instructor to go over his family album. I’m writing stuff in Korean (like mom, dad, grandma, friends) so that his foster mother can read it to him. More on the rest of the package tomorrow!

Forever I Am Changed

Aside from the influx of Peeps, you would hardly notice it was Easter in our house. I dont know how it happened, but for some reason, I just havent gotten into celebrating it, like the other commercialized holidays. Sure we went to church (or rather, worked at church), but other than that… nothing. No fancy meal. No Easter baskets. No egg coloring. No traditions at all.
But with AJ on his way, and knowing that next Easter, I’ll have a 1 year old to entertain, I figured it was time to start picking out some traditions. I’d like to focus just as much on Jesus as the Easter bunny, though.
Do you have any Easter traditions to suggest? What made the holiday special for you as a child?
