Peel Me A Grape

Ack! I’m so torn!
AJ is stating his independence and making it clear that he will not tolerate baby food much longer. Down with baby food! This boy is approaching the big oh one and will not be mocked with such pureed crap. His teachers are practically begging me to stop the spoonful of pears – cheerio – spoonful of pears – cheerio – repeat nonsense.
And so I’ve been provided the Preschool Lunch Menu.
As I’ve mentioned before, I really really want AJ to eat healthy. And the research I’ve done says the best way to do that is to keep his sugar and sodium intake to a minimum. Little kids need calories, carbs, some fat and vitamins/minerals. They do not need sugar and salt. (as much as I love those things). I would also like to shy away from overly processed foods, as all that additional crap is equally unnecessary.
The preschool lunch menu provides quick and easy items. Which I totally understand. But quick and easy also means fried, processed, and slightly unknown ingredients/processes.  Part of me does not want him to participate in any of these foods. But the other part of me would really like to save some money. And I have a hard time coming up with nutritious, pre-made meals too.
I’m well aware that there’s no turning back one you’ve had Chickfila chicken nuggets (which I’m pleased to say are on the menu for the 19th of this month) and would rather he keep his distance for as long as possible. But oh, quick and easy is so appealing…

Old Brown Shoe Baby

So, I bought these first. They were everything I wanted in a first shoe. But when I put them on AJ, it was obvious he didn’t find them comfortable. I tried them a couple more times, just be to sure, and finally gave up on them. So, I bought some fake Robeez from Target. Which have adorable monkeys on them (and I think its clear how I feel about monkeys).

Amazingly, AJ walks normally in these. Unfortunately, they are soft soled, so while they may keep his feet warm in the cooling temps, they dont provide much protection. Which is fine when he spends the majority of his time inside, or being carried from place to place. But, already, his independence has him preferring to walk. More structured shoes wont be far behind, I think. And so it begins…
