I said (not jokingly) “They gave Cole a time out.” Time out? Yeah… clearly I’m spending way too much time disciplining a 2 year old and not enough time watching hockey. (he was sent to the penalty box, for all you non-hockey fans).

And thats my life right now… too much time doing this, not enough time doing that (like blogging, am I right?)

Dont get your hopes up.

Let me tell you about my morning. Yes, its only 6:30am, and I’ve already had “a morning”.
It started at about 4:17am, when AJ woke up crying. I got him calmed down and back into some sort of sleep, so I stumbled back to my bed to get back under the warm warm covers. Unfortunately, as it usually goes for me, my brain was already working at full speed and so I laid there with a thousand thoughts in my head. Until he started crying again at 4:48am. I went to him, and immediately saw the drops of blood covering his sheets and pillow and dripping from his nose.
After AJ’s been sick for a little while, especially when its snotty nose related (and when isnt it?) he gets bloody noses. We’ve been lucky to lessen them with running a humidifier at night, and recently our doctor recommended swabbing Vitamin E oil in his nose, but this time around, no luck.
This one, in particular, was pretty bloody and in addition to that, poor AJ was freaked out by it, so he was crying, and screaming and thrashing around in my arms. Which, as you can imagine, would only make things worse.
It was not long before I was covered in blood, and its possible that my 3rd floor has blood in various places, but I havent been back up there yet. My hands, my face, and my shirt was splattered with blood, I looked like I had murdered someone.
All I wanted was to NOT be covered in blood, but instead I sat on the couch with AJ while he calmed down and we finally got his nose to stop bleeding.
All seemed well. I was in the bathroom washing up, AJ was standing near me “reading” a magazine. If you’re familiar with my 2nd floor half bath (which is where I get ready in the mornings), AJ was standing in the small space between the window and the toilet, with a magazine on the toilet. He was flipping through it… and just like you and me, he gets very annoyed by those small inserts that keep the pages from laying flat. But his temper was so short that after pounding on it a little bit, he got upset and threw himself back in protest. Bad spot to do such a thing, as he jabbed his head right on the corner of the window sill and then smashed his forehead on the hard toilet. Yep. Cause what was missing from this morning was a trip to the emergency room. Fortunately, the only blood that showed up was from his nose (again). But we got it under control.
And now, he’s drumming to Blue Man Group and I’m going to go start a load of laundry. All before 7am.

So, within my first couple of weeks on the job, a hard drive crashed in this area where the smart people work with ethidium bromide. The lab assistant escorted me in there and gave me gloves to wear. I was kinda excited to wear them, but it was also a hassle. If I needed to type on my own computer, I would have to take them off, and back and forth.
It was a few days of working on this computer, and one day I was sitting on the floor in the room. Had my laptop out and the broken computer open. Someone walked by and made a horrible face and said “you probably shouldnt be sitting on the floor like that… here, let me get you something to sit on.”
Seriously? I had no idea what this stuff really was and how bad it was for me. But if I die at an early age and you suspect it wasnt from all the french fries, it may be the ethidium bromide.
My coworker, Rob, seems to think its no big deal… as he once stuck his entire hand in ethidium bromide and he’s still kickin it (and running marathons!). But still, I know I havent been as careful as I apparently should be with a mutagen that could be a carcinogen. Maybe I’ll just develop a spidey sense, or the ability to turn everything I touch purple (awesome).

Let me just say right now, I try my hardest to avoid Facebook. Yes, its a thousand times better than MySpace. Yes, I greatly appreciate how easy its been to reconnect with old friends. But other than that… not a fan.

That said, I’ve been tagged 45 thousand times for this “25 Random Things About Me.” And when it comes to blogging, its better than nothing, right?

1. As much as I hate Windows, I thank God for it. Cause if there werent Windows machines, I would not have a job.
2. The riskiest part of my job is that I service two computers in a room that is pretty much covered in Ethidium Bromide. I will have to tell the stories about it sometime soon.
3. I wish I was the type of girl to wear ribbons in my hair. But I cant get past the cheerleader association.
4. Yesterday I ate a Smores poptart for breakfast, Chickfila (nuggets) for lunch and Chickfila (sandwich) for dinner.
5. AJ has woken up at 5am for the past four days and it sucks.
6. I didnt get my driver’s license till I was 20 years old.
7. The first vehicle I drove with my license was a 15 passenger van filled with high school kids.
8. I am waaaay too proud of the year I spent as a coxswain for my high school crew team.
9. My master bathroom has not been cleaned in 4 months. This is not the first time its gone that long.
10. I cant remember who borrowed my Harry Potter dvds.
11. I desperately want bright red hair right now, but I cant afford it.
12. I wish Kristen Bell was my very best friend.
13. I’ve spelled tired “tyerd” for so long, its 2nd nature.
14. I audited a semester of Korean before we traveled to Korea.
15. I barely remember any of it.
16. The next thing I want to “bake” is fried cupcakes.
17. I have a tiny bottle of Heinz ketchup on my desk with a “Go Blue Devils!” label.
18. I still huff and puff on my walk from my car to my office.
19. I never figured out why I got hives that one time.
20. I may have overreacted last night when AJ called the Chickfila cow a “horse” for the thousandth time. I may have raised my voice a smidge and said something along the lines of “What is wrong with you?!”
21. My phone randomly powers off pretty regularly, but I wont do anything about it.
22. My birthday is on the 22nd. What? You already knew that? Good.
23. I looove Teavana’s Sweet Cranberry Black tea. So much so that I wrote them a letter asking them to never get rid of it.
24. I get really bothered when people say/use an idea of mine before I get a chance to, making me no longer original.
25. I would rather go thirsty than drink diet soda.

So, to catch you up on the past 4 months.

Though the busyness of my job has kept me from things like blogging, its pretty exciting to have my first real job. My days are full, and challenging, and interactive. Some parts are rewarding, some are frustrating. I really enjoy the people I work with and finally feel like I’ve settled in. There are still some times when I wish I had my boring pointless easy job, but lately I feel more capable than not. Oh, and did I mention the MacBookPro? Yeah.

AJ turned 2 (in November). During his birthweek we flew down to Florida, so we got to celebrate with family down there too. It had been a year since AJ got to see his grandparents (so he didnt remember them much). He and my dad hit it off immediately, bonding over drumming with the Blue Man Group. My dad has a drum set, so AJ got to sit in front of his first real set of drums and play. It wont be long before those drums make their way into my home, I’m sure.

Christmas and New Years were pretty quiet, which is how I wanted them. It marks the first year in many that I didnt baked Christmas cookies with my friend Christine and I didnt host a New Years Eve party. I slept instead. That says many things about my life right now.

Most of you know, but things with newhope are crazy (and exciting). We’ve got about 30 days till grand opening week and an unbelievable amount of things to do. I’m trying to just let it happen and go with the flow, cause if not, my head gets way too crazy with all the unknowns and I border hyperventilating. And I’m not even all that involved… oy.

Somehow, I’ve managed to watch some TV. There are still several series that I havent even started this season, but I’m also caught up on a few. And though it shouldnt be surprising, they totally cancelled my favorite, Pushing Daisies. So, from here on out, I am no longer declaring a favorite show. In fact, I really really HATE How I Met Your Mother right now. That Barney Stinson (wait for it)… sucks.

I know.

Reasons:
1. My (not so) new job. So, I’m a full time computer technician, servicing about 400 computers. When I took the job, I guess I misunderstood the time commitment involved. I kinda thought it’d be similar to my previous job, which allowed time for blogging, chatting with friends, looking up recipes, etc. For the past 4 months, I havent had time for any of those things and I’ve been working late, working at home in the evenings, working on the weekends. It was quite the change for me and required a great shift in priorities.

2. Me. I havent been in a very good place lately. And every time I think about blogging, it gets depressing. And lets be honest, you dont come here to read woe is me stuff. But my internal world that no one ever sees has been high in the woe. Aside from job stress, I’ve just been feeling unhappy with my life (and yet so smiley, I know). Some of you might agree, but becoming a parent definitely seems to highlight and bold out the failures and shortcomings in your life. I want so badly to be great for the greatest thing in my life. So, I’ve been trying to deal with those things on my own and its been wearing me out. Like I said, woe.

3. Its hard to start over. I couldnt figure out a good way to start posting again. Its not like I could jump back in like I hadnt been gone for 4 months. But here I am anyway. Mostly because purplesabrina.com was up for renewal and I couldnt bear to part with it.

So there you have it. You probably wont think those reasons are good enough. I cant promise there will be another post tomorrow, or the next day, but I did want you to know I’m still alive and this is where my life is right now. Oh, and its my birthmonth. Just so we’re clear, I am a-okay with turning 30. That said, I’m not interested in celebrating too much. Unless it involves going to bed early, sleeping in late, trips to NYC, red hair dye, and a housekeeper. (sounds like I want to be a movie star, heh). oh, and cake.

Lots, apparently. The beach (which requires about an hour of prep time and another hour of detox), the pool (which I have not spent enough time in, but my skin currently disagrees), reading a book (which I’d almost forgotten how to do), eating lots of yummy grilled food (thanks Nick!) and sitting (a great amount of sitting). Praise God for vacation. Its too bad I cant vacation all the time.

Well, I’m most officially on vacation, so I’ve got zero excuses not to blog, right? Except I should be down at the pool playing with AJ. And, I need to start slicing up some potatoes and onions so they can go on the grill.

But before I do… let me just run through some highlights from the long time that I’ve been missing.

like I mentioned, work has been the most busiest it has ever been in m entire life. A whole new kind of busy… lots of unknowns, lots of excitement, lots of incredibly beautiful computers. And in the end, as of when I left at the end of the day on Thursday, I had created a fully functional dual booting iMac computer lab. Classes started today in said lab, and so far, I havent gotten any horrible phone calls, so I’ll consider it a success. I put a lot of myself into this project, and felt mighty proud to complete it.

But not so much that I wouldnt leave it. Also in that time, I got offered another job. I havent officially accepted it yet, but the chances are looking good. So, dont tell anyone. If you want to here more, you’ll have to ask me personally. However, I can say it will fulfill one of my life long dreams and finally check something off my Christmas list that has appeared for many years.

At some point in the past month or so, Felix got rear-ended. Again. The damage was minimal, and because of my busy, it took me forever to take him in for an estimate. And now, I keep procrastinating calling the guy that hit me (he offered to pay out of pocket), cause I’m weird like that.

I’m on vacation! A real, live, makes me feel like an adult vacation. We’re at the beach with The Tripps and our house is lovely, and Connor and AJ are having a blast, and I havent been outside once. Heh. I’ll go outside, I promise. I just needed today to sit inside and do a whole lotta nothing. I forgot how much I liked nothing.

I’m sure I’ve got more. And I’ll remember, eventually.
